Ugass Bukura Somo was born in Ethiopia in about 1898. He was a well-respected Gharri leader and worked with Sultan haji Hassan Gababa, Sultan Robow Haji Hassan and Sultan Mohamed Haji Hassan Gababa. In 1964 he took a newly crowned Sultan Mohamed Haji Hassan under his wing after the death of Sultan Robow Haji Hassan, and was the leading Gharri elders during the most difficult time in the Gharri history. He was exiled to Kenya in 1976, where he remained ever since. He died on November 13, 2014 in Nairobi, Kenya. He was one of the most famous Gharri leaders of the 21st Century. He outlived all the Gharri leaders of his generation and he was born in 1898 and he was 116 years old at the time of his death.
